Tour Overview
This tour will get you to experience a hands-on demonstration in a rural farm area with the locals! As you travel through New Zealand, you’ll find perpetual open fields and beautiful plantations. Your ‘Christchurch Farm Tour’ starts once you are picked up from your Christchurch hotel. We drive towards the Southern Alps and enjoy the changing view as we cross over the Canterbury Plains towards Springfield. An hour drive and roughly 80 kms, will see us to the foothills of the Southern Alps. You will get to view a large cross section of farms – from dairying, cropping, seed production, deer farming and a range of livestock. There are many extraordinary photographic opportunities along this course. I am more than happy to stop, should you wish to take photographs along the way.
My Christchurch Farm Tour takes you to a typical New Zealand Sheep farm, where you can see both a Sheep Dog and Sheep Shearing demonstration. The farm is set in the foothills of the Southern Alps, on the banks of the Waimakariri River. Trevor was a prize-winning shearer in his day. His wife, Heather, makes some decadent home baking, which we tuck into at the end of the visit. The farm offers you stunning scenery and photos with the sheepdog.
As an alternative, I can also take you to a range of other farms, dependent on your specific interest. I have a strong interest in farming, having grown up on a mixed farm in Scotland. When immigrating to New Zealand, my aspiration was to become a Dairy Farmer. My journey has ultimately taken me into a different stream once here.
