Christchurch Hiking Tour

On my Christchurch Hiking Tour I can have you at our starting point within 20 minutes drive from the city centre in a very pretty coastal area to the South East called Taylors Mistake from where our hiking point starts Allow 3 hours for the hike and 4 hours if you chose the picnic lunch option .

Depending on the state of the tide and the mood of the sea we can walk along the sandy beach below the baches( week end houses) Throughout the walk I will walk with you for periods and then double back to pick up the vehicle and then leapfrog and join you 10 minutes later. This way you have a choice to walk as much or as little as you choose.

Coming from the Taylors Mistake side this is the hardest climb you have up to the view point above. If you like you can join me and take the easy way up in the car or enjoy the winding track as it takes you over the head of the peninsula .We can rest a while on the bench that looks out to Godley Head and listen to the chorus of seabirds that swoop along the cliff face that we now sit above. The hike offers you the chance to see a great combination of plants, interesting volcanic geology, wonderful landscapes and some of Christchurchs’ most attractive houses. My favourite view is towards the end of the walk looking back across the city and beyond to the snow capped Southern Alps.

After an enjoyable walk you can cool your feet in the waves on the sandy beach at Sumner.

Weather in the South Island can be very changeable and the phrase of 4 season s in a day is quite often used. I very much recommend that you bring layers and most important is a warm woollen hat in case the temperature drops.

We also have our fair share of rain which is why our country is so green but if you are coming on my tours we will remain flexible at all times to enable you to be where the weather is best.

However you do need to bring good rainwear in the event that we do meet up with rain .

Good hiking shoes which provide good support for your ankles and sound grip underfoot are required..I am able to provide hiking sticks if required.

Bring a sun hat, sunscreen and a bottle of drinking water. ( fill it up on the track or from your hotel tap…Christchurch has some fabulous drinking water )

If you chose the picnic option I provide a 2 course meal with Fruit Juice, Tea ,Coffee or Herbal Tea.

Depending upon your wishes I can offer Fresh Homemade Bread and Soup

Main course of quiche pie ( salmon /bacon ) and salad. In Summer season I can offer dessert if you wish instead of the soup .

Fresh Berries, or cheesecake or selection of fruit salad. Please let me know your wishes when you book.

*Unfortunately due to cliff damage and rockfall concern as a result of the 2011 earthquake some  parts of the Taylors Mistake walkway are currently closed but we are still able to enjoy a pleasant walk on other parts of the track.
